EMDR & CBT Therapy with Kim

Understanding the patterns. Processing what's underneath them. Moving forward.

Sometimes understanding why you feel the way you do isn't enough to change it.

You may recognize the anxious thoughts. You know you're overthinking. You understand where certain patterns came from. You may even know what you “should” be telling yourself — yet your mind and body continue reacting in the same ways.

That's one reason Kim integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) into her work.

CBT can help us understand what's happening in the present: the thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck. EMDR allows us to explore and process experiences that may be contributing to those patterns.

Together, they give us the opportunity to work with both what's happening now and what may be underneath it.

Bridge In Forest

Kim is the founder of KWR Practices, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor.

Her work focuses on helping people understand the connection between what they've experienced, what they've learned to believe, and how they're responding today.

Kim integrates CBT, EMDR, relational therapy, psychoeducation, and other approaches depending on the needs of the person sitting across from her.

Does This Sound Familiar?

You might benefit from this approach if you find yourself thinking:

“I know I'm overthinking, but I can't stop.”

“I understand where this comes from, but knowing that hasn't changed how I feel.”

“Something small happens and my reaction feels much bigger than the situation.”

“I constantly expect something to go wrong.”

“I've moved on from what happened, but my body doesn't seem to know that.”

“I know logically that I'm good enough, but I don't actually believe it.”

That disconnect between what you know intellectually and what you continue to feel emotionally is an area where integrating CBT and EMDR can be especially useful.

What We Might Work On

Anxiety & Overthinking
Identify anxious thought patterns while exploring experiences and beliefs that may be reinforcing them.

Trauma & Difficult Experiences
Process experiences that continue to affect how you feel, think, or respond today.

Self-Esteem & Self-Worth
Explore deeply held beliefs such as I'm not good enough, I'm a failure, or I have to be perfect.

Stress & Burnout
Understand the patterns, expectations, boundaries, and experiences contributing to chronic overwhelm.

Perfectionism
Challenge rigid expectations while exploring where the pressure to perform or “get it right” may have developed.

Triggers & Emotional Reactions
Understand why certain situations create intense emotional responses and develop healthier ways of responding.

What Therapy With Kim Is Like

Kim's approach is active, collaborative, and relational.

Together, you'll talk about what's happening in your life, notice patterns, make connections, challenge things when appropriate, and develop strategies you can actually use outside of therapy.

CBT and EMDR provide us with tools and structure, but the therapeutic relationship remains at the center of the work.

What Is CBT?

CBT is an evidence-based approach that explores the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

We might use CBT to identify automatic thoughts, recognize thinking patterns, challenge beliefs that aren't serving you, experiment with different behaviors, and develop practical coping strategies.

CBT with Kim is about becoming curious about why your mind responds the way it does and figuring out what would actually help.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

It is a structured psychotherapy approach designed to help people process distressing experiences and memories that may continue influencing thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or physical reactions.

EMDR isn't only about talking through every detail of what happened. The process uses bilateral stimulation while working with memories, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations in a structured therapeutic environment.

We'd also like to include an important expectation:

EMDR isn't necessarily appropriate for every client or every session.

We'll first spend time understanding what you're experiencing, establishing goals, and determining together whether EMDR is an appropriate part of your treatment.

You don't have to keep understanding the pattern without knowing how to change it.

If you've spent a lot of time thinking “I know why I do this — I just don't know how to stop,” integrating CBT and EMDR may provide a different way of approaching what's keeping you stuck.
